Fungal Metabolism of n-Alkylbenzenes.
Isolates of Paecilomyces, Verticillium, Beauveria, and Penicillium species were tested for ability to metabolize a variety of n-alkylbenzenes. Minimum side chain lengths were required for metabolism of these substrates. These were C(4) for the Paecilomyces sp., C(8) for the Verticillium sp., and C(9) for the other two isolates. Growth on dodecylbenzene yielded benzoic and phenylacetic acids as ...
متن کاملMass spectrometry of alkylbenzenes and related compounds. Part II. Gas phase ion chemistry of protonated alkylbenzenes (alkylbenzenium ions)
Mass spectrometry and ion chemistry of alkylbenzenes, today, is much more than the gas-phase reactions of their radical cations and their prominent fragment ions, such as C7H7+ and C7Hs+'. Indeed, the gas-phase chemistry of gaseous ions originating mainly from the electron impact (EI) ionization of alkylbenzenes has been investigated extensively for more than 35 years and has revealed to us num...
متن کاملComparison study of the gas-phase oxidation of alkylbenzenes and alkylcyclohexanes
The goal of this paper is to present new experimental results obtained during the study of the gas phase oxidation of ethyl-benzene, n-hexyl-benzene, ethyl-cyclohexane and n-butyl-cyclohexane which belongs to two molecule families present in diesel fuels: alkylbenzenes and alkylcyclohexanes. Experiments were carried out in a jet-stirred reactor over the temperature range 550–1100 K. The new res...
متن کاملStudies in detoxication. 55. The metabolism of alkylbenzenes: (a) glucuronic acid excretion following the administration of alkylbenzenes; (b) elimination of toluene in the expired air of rabbits.
Little is known about the metabolism in the animal body of monoalkylbenzenes other than toluene and ethylbenzene (cf. Williams, 1947). The information available suggests that the n-alkyl side chains undergo w-oxidation followed by $-oxidation of the terminology (Rules of Carbohydrate Nomenclature, J. chem. Soc., 1952, p. 5108), glucosiduronic acids) andthe alcohols asnon-reducing glucuronides. ...
متن کاملEffects of Culture Conditions on Production of trans-Cinnamic Acid from Alkylbenzenes by Soil Microorganisms.
The production of trans-cinnamic acid from various alkylbenzenes by soil microorganisms was studied intensively by use of a co-oxidation technique. The microorganisms were grown on n-paraffins, and they did not use aromatic compounds as a carbon source when the preferred substrate was present in the medium. The effects of cell population, co-oxidation time, and type and mode of addition of the ...
